Belize is internationally known for its conservation efforts. As a result, it has signed on to various international agreements, conventions and regional management organizations for the sustainable use and protection of biodiversity. As a member to these various organizations, Belize has to participate at annual workshops, Convention of the Parties (COP) meetings and scientific meetings. The Fisheries Department is the focal point for the various organizations listed below except for CITES which falls under the Forest Department. The EMU also has to prepare and submit yearly progress reports.
